We Move Into Boulder, Dougie Has Strange Condition, and BEST OF ALL, We Come to See You!

Dear Joanie,

It's now been two months since we came to New York (where you live) and Connecticut (where your grandmother lives), and it has been the highlight of our year. We loved being with you, playing with you, laughing with you, and going to your first birthday party. I have some great pictures from that time.

Of course, we're both in our 80s. As of this writing, I'll be 82 in two months and Dougie is 84. We have some aches and pains.  But we wouldn't have missed this trip for the world, and we can't wait to see you again. For my birthday on October 11 or your mom's on October 5, perhaps?

Here is what has happened in those two months since we returned to Boulder.

We Move into Boulder

To be absolutely honest, I never pictured myself living in a senior retirement place. But here we are at The Carillon on Boulder Creek. I have always made a promise to myself that I would not be stubborn about seeking help when we needed it or about staying in my home no matter what. But I never pictured myself as leaving our little cottage in the mountains outside of Boulder. So that's the contradiction and the dilemma.

True to my word, I did not put up a fuss. Dougie cannot drive anymore, and his health is not good. He has a great deal of trouble walking, and he gets tired easily. He takes a lot of medication for his blood cancer. He is ever optimistic, and usually reads the livelong day.  But he is not well.

So, your Great Aunt Julie organized the whole move and flew from Coco's house to Boulder to coordinate everything. My friend Ellen came also to help. Julie stayed until she had organized our apartment, and then she went home to Texas. I didn't hear from her for two days. She was exhausted.

Dougie is quite happy to be here. Most of all, he loves ordering his meals from the restaurant. But he loves our views as well, and so do I. We are on the 6th floor and have a wall of windows that looks out on the Flatirons, Boulder's resident mountains.  The apartment is light and airy and a bit larger than our mountain cottage. Here is an external view:

 Quite nice.

And the inside:

Also quite nice.

I do miss my mountain home, though:

We still have the mountain house, so I have the best of both worlds I believe.  Our plans are to leave the mountain house to our children, who can do whatever they want with it. Maybe it will pass on to the grandchildren as well, and maybe one day you can own it. But that's a long way away.

To be continued on next post...A COVID update. We live in strange times...,

 With love,

 GG Katie
